S.C. PROBLEM
Thanks for Viers’ immigration efforts
I want to commend S.C. Rep. Thad Viers for his stance on fighting illegal immigration. I have been reading with great interest Viers’ efforts on this front. I am very impressed with his attention and focus on this obvious problem in our community and state. It is refreshing that one of our elected officials is listening to those he represents. His legislation he hopes to pass into law will be good for South Carolina.
Horry County Sheriff Phillip Thompson should also get recognized for his efforts on this issue for his attempts to get his officers certified to check the legal status of prisoners at J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

CHARACTER
Blessings for person who returned wallet
Two hours after leaving Wal-Mart in the North Myrtle Beach Gator Hole Plaza, I realized I had left my wallet in a shopping cart in the parking area. Upon returning to Customer Service, I was told an unidentified person had found my wallet and returned it to them … credit cards, licenses and money included.
I cannot thank this person enough. It is a blessing to know there are persons in our area of this character. May God continue to give you His blessings now and forever more. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

FREEDOM
Listen to King’s message of unity
On those who steal our freedom:
Why is it so important to hate and destroy people, be it black or white? We all make mistakes. I was an addict; I’ve changed. Come on, people, didn’t you listen to what Martin Luther King Jr. said: Get along, not separate. We are moving backward, if we listen to the hate that comes from some of these radio stations – and I’m purposely not saying black because we all seem to have that few who want us to keep us outside the door of freedom, the door that, as it opens, that few keeps it from opening fully.
Martin Luther King Jr. didn’t want separation. He walked, preached for unity. Martin’s march with whites, Jews, all kinds of people fought for the little freedom we allow ourselves to have. Whites love God, too. We need to open the door of separation and keep those who steal our freedom away.

SAMPLE BALLOTS
S.C. doesn’t inform voters on issues
What is wrong with South Carolina?
We moved here in 2005 from Arizona, registered to vote when we got driver’s licenses, and that is the last we have heard from the state about elections.
We expected to receive, as we had in Arizona, California and Hawaii before that, sample ballots with candidate profiles and explanations, pro and con, about ballot propositions. As registered voters, we were also sure we would be notified well ahead of Election Day about when and where to vote. We did hear from Horry County about that.
It seems to me that a responsible government would take steps to ensure that (1) as many citizens as possible are registered to vote, and (2) that the electorate is familiar with the candidates and issues involved.
It’s time for South Carolina to get with the program and encourage rather than discourage voter registration and participation.

THANK YOU
Rep. Brown, staff cut health plan worries
Letter of appreciation to Congressman Henry Brown and his staff: I recently turned 65 years old. I opted for Medicare Parts A and B. I then tried to change my Government Employees Health Association health insurance from high option to standard option. I tried in vain for two months working with the Washington, D.C., government to complete this change. I then visited the Myrtle Beach office of Congressman Brown. I was assisted by Caleigh Gordon. Later that same day, while at my residence, I received a telephone call from Gordon. She stated that she had received the forms I needed to complete. I returned to Brown’s office and completed the forms required. Gordon then faxed the forms back to the D.C. government. Thank you, Caleigh Gordon and Congressman Brown.
