Legislators to discuss array of issues at event

The South Strand Republican Club’s annual Legislative Breakfast is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Inlet Affairs Banquet & Catering, 4031 U.S. 17 Business in Murrells Inlet.

Legislators planning to attend include Sen. Ray Cleary, R-Murrells Inlet; Sen. Luke Rankin, R-Myrtle Beach; Rep. Nelson Hardwick, R-Surfside Beach; Rep. Thad Viers, R-Myrtle Beach; and Rep. Alan Clemmons, R-Myrtle Beach.

Local delegation members will discuss proposed legislation topics such as illegal immigration, taxes, school funding, tourism, health, homeowners association regulations and more. A 30-minute question-and-answer session will be part of the event.

Democrats planning upcoming events

Horry County Democrats have several events planned in the next two weeks:

The North Strand Democratic Club meets the second Tuesday of each month. Tuesday’s meeting will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Underdogs Restaurant, 304 E. S.C. 90, in the Sportszone Center in Little River. For information, contact Brian or Roberta at 272-6454.

The District 1 Democratic Women’s Council meets the second Wednesday of each month, and this month’s meeting is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Horry County Democratic Party Headquarters, 900 Fourth Ave., Suite A, Conway. For more information, call Shirley Vaught Green at 756-2740.

The South Strand Democrats meet the second Thursday of each month. This month’s meeting takes place at 6 p.m. Feb. 14 at Pub -N- Grub, 3901 Dick Pond Road, Suite N, Socastee, at the corner of S.C. 544 and Big Block Road. Group’s event hosts talks and kick-offs

Murrells Inlet 2007, a community revitalization group, is hosting its free annual Winter Chowder Talk on Feb. 19.

The nonprofit group will review its list of community projects and the Georgetown County Sheriff Department will give a brief presentation on gang awareness.

Also at the meeting, Chris Laude, Georgetown County engineer, Susan Libes, director of the Waccamaw Watershed Academy, and Christine Ellis, Waccamaw Riverkeeper, will kick off the Murrells Inlet Creek Water Monitoring Program. They will unveil the program’s objective, scope and procedures with details about volunteer opportunities.

The meeting is free and open to the public. Complimentary chowder and beverages will be served at 6:30 p.m. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Inlet Affairs, 4024 U.S. 17 Business, across from Drunken Jack’s Restaurant. For more information, call 357-2007.

Two men charged after family gunfight

Horry County police have charged two men in connection with an argument that ended in gunfire. No one was killed.

Carlos Saucedo Jr., 20, of Loris, was charged with assault and battery with intent to kill, and Daniel Campos, 21, also of Loris, was charged with criminal sexual conduct, according to a police press release sent on Sunday.

The argument between two families happened Saturday at 1 p.m. on Maplewild Road in the Mount Olive community. Four people were injured and taken to Loris Hospital. Their conditions were unknown late Sunday.

It was unclear late Sunday what the argument was about.
